 1. How can I try "Configit Quote" on my SAP-VC models?

1.     eSpline and Configit Software have developed a software suite with a user console that guides you through a download of your SAP product models.  It is called SilverMine.  More on SilverMine.

2.     You will receive a knowledgebase [SAP VC] extraction program "Avenue from VC" developed by eSpline and guidelines on how to install and use it.  Avenue from VC will extract your knowledge bases into an open and consolidated XML-representation. The Product Model export is non-intrusive and only needs read access to your SAP environment.

3.     We offer a strict confidentiality agreement concerning any data we receive from you as part of the test. It is however sometimes necessary to enter a customer specific non disclosure agreement, before we can receive data.

4.     XML-files are zipped and downloaded to a secure portal location. You provide your email address as the key to where the files are to be placed and download the product models. We receive a message from FilesAnywhere that your model has been placed there and we begin the transformation process.

5.     We compile your product models and generate VT-files (with default configurators) for your data. The compiler also generates an analysis of your VC-specifications and your SAP-VC product models will be available in an open hypertext documentation format.

6.     You receive a temporary account to our customer portal

7.     From this account you will be able to:

a.      Run your configuration models as a stand-alone web application

b.      Download, install and run the configurators on your own PC

c.      Download the analysis report (which often detects errors, inconsistencies and potential problems in your SAP-VC code)

d.      Download the Product Models as open hypertext documents.

8.     The results are evaluated with Configit Software and eSpline during a web based interactive session targeted to last about 1 hour. The evaluation will identify areas where we see how your company can benefit the most using Configit Distiller for SAP.

9.     If you have further interest, we will prepare cost estimates for licenses, integration and implementation services for your scenarios identified during the evaluation.

10. You make the decision to conduct a three day on-site workshop to fully specify the top priority solution identified under 8 or you choose not to pursue this further.

4) How can I combine product modeling for production and sales?

The first step of the compiler is to transform the XML-format into an equivalent product model (which in turn is compiled to vt-files). The entire process from SAP to VT-file can be completely automated but it is also possible to stop at the product model stage. the Distiller creates a complete product model in Configit Product Modeler. The Distiller add-on to Configit Product Modeler makes it possible to annotate and extend the Distiller-model and to specify what characteristics should be visible to the end-user.

6) How do I get information back into SAP?

There are many different options of getting information back into the SAP environment. The right solution depends entirely on the business process that are automated using the Configit Quote and the business objects created as part of the configurations. Examples of such business objects are:

• Variants (plain configuration of a product or solution)
• Quotes and Orders (containing one or more configurable objects)
• BOM (Sales-BOM, Engineering-BOM or Manufacturing-BOM)
• Documents (proposals, documentation, instructions)
